Why Cruise And Stay Holidays Are The Ultimate Way To Travel

Why Cruise And Stay Holidays Are The Ultimate Way To Travel

Why Cruise And Stay Holidays Are The Ultimate Way To Travel Cruise and Stay Deals Cruise and stay holidays are quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to see multiple destinations making traveling the world a more exciting and flexible experience. Combining the freedom of a land based holiday and the best parks of a cruise, this unique style of travel is a favourite for people who want more than a traditional cruise experience. Whether you are seeking adventure, culture or pure relaxation as a seasoned traveller or looking to see what cruising has to offer as a first time cruiser, cruise and stay packages offer a perfect blend of leisure and immersion. What are Cruise and Stay Packages? A cruise and stay holiday is exactly what it sounds like, a holiday package that combines a cruise sailing with a stay on land. These packages allow travellers to enjoy a few days on land at a destination of choice before or after enjoying the luxury and entertainment on board a cruise. For example, you might spend a few days in New York or Miami and explore the city before boarding a Caribbean cruise for a perfect blend of a city break and tropical paradise. Experiencing the historic city of Rome a few days before or after sailing on a Mediterranean cruise gives the appeal of multiple holidays in one. You can find cruise and stay packages that combine 5 star hotels, transfers, local excurisons, cruise and other luxuries, ensuring a smooth and convenient holiday experience while giving you a lot of flexibility. For a hassle free holiday, cruise and stay holidays from the UK are perfect for post cruise exploration while avoiding Airport lines. Cruise And Stay Holidays vs Traditional Cruises While traditional cruises are still the most popular option and are a perfect option for travellers that want to see multiple destinations in a short period, they often restrict the time spent on each destination to a few hours. Cruise and stay holidays provide a more immersive travel experience with multiple days on land, giving travellers the opportunity to explore cities, beaches and attractions in more depth. This extended time ashore, unlike a traditional cruise where sightseeing can feel rushed, means you can explore local landmarks, dine at authentic local restaurants and experience more on land at a relaxed pace. Cruise and stay holidays give you more value for your fare, by combining two holidays together, you can cross off multiple destinations off your bucket list without breaking the bank. Additionally, cruise and stay packages appeal to a wider audience and are ideal for couples on adult-only cruises seeking romance, families who want a mixture of adventure and relaxation on family cruises or solo travellers who prefer flexibility. Whether you want to enjoy the nightlife in Barcelona, take a wine tour in Santorini or visit historical landmarks in Athens, these holidays offer the best of both worlds, the excitement of cruising and the freedom of a land holiday. Best Destinations To Explore On A Cruise And Stay Holiday One of the biggest appeals of cruise and stay holidays is the wide range of destinations available to you. The first timers guide to what to wear on a cruise

The first timers guide to what to wear on a cruise

Packing for a cruise can feel a bit like preparing for several holidays at once. You’ll have days spent lounging in the sunshine, evenings enjoying dinner and entertainment, and the chance to explore new places ashore. The key to feeling comfortable and confident throughout is to pack a mix of practical, versatile clothing that suits each part of your journey. We’ve put together a simple guide with a little help from our friends at Klass to help you decide what to wear on a cruise, from formal nights to lazy afternoons on deck.   Daytime and Relaxing on Deck During the day, comfort is your priority. Lightweight, breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen are ideal for warmer climates. Think T-shirts, polo shirts, shorts, or casual skirts. If you plan to spend time by the pool or sunbathing, pack swimsuits and a cover-up, such as a kaftan or sarong, for walking around the deck or heading to the buffet. Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen. Decks can be breezy, so a light jumper or cardigan is useful for cooler mornings or evenings. Footwear should be practical—sandals, trainers, or deck shoes are good options. Avoid high heels or slippery soles as decks can get wet. Sarah Cormack, Occasion Wear Designer at Klass reveals the one item she couldn’t head on a trip without: “An often overlooked must-have for your cruise capsule wardrobe is a cardigan, shawl, or some sort of cover-up for those breezier evenings onboard. It can be easy to forget the evening chill or even the ship's air-con when you’re in ‘holiday mode’, but it's essential to have that extra layer on standby.”     Formal Nights Most cruises include at least one or two formal evenings, when guests are encouraged to dress up for dinner. This doesn’t mean you need to go overboard, but it’s an opportunity to look polished. For men, a dark suit, collared shirt, and tie will usually be appropriate, though some may prefer a jacket and smart trousers without a tie if the ship’s dress code allows. Women might opt for a cocktail dress, a long skirt with a smart top, or a stylish jumpsuit. Comfortable dress shoes are a must, as there may be some walking between venues. A light shawl or wrap is useful for air-conditioned dining rooms or breezy decks. Sarah says: “A ‘formal’ dress code doesn't stop at floor-length gowns. Cocktail dresses, jumpsuits or a well-styled skirt work perfectly under a formal dress code. Think flowing fabrics, soft shimmers and elegant accessories to enhance your evening look whilst staying within the rules on board. If your cruise offers themed evenings—such as a “black and white” night or a tropical party—it’s worth packing something suitable, but there’s no need to bring an elaborate costume. Simple accessories or a colourful shirt can fit the theme without taking up much suitcase space.   Shore Excursions When going ashore, practicality is key. What you wear will depend on the activities you’ve planned. For sightseeing or city tours, casual and comfortable clothing works best—light trousers or shorts, breathable tops, and sturdy shoes for walking. A small rucksack is handy for carrying essentials such as a water bottle, sun cream, a camera, and local currency. For more adventurous excursions—like hiking, cycling, or visiting historical sites—consider packing activewear, a waterproof jacket, and a hat. In some destinations, modest clothing may be required for visiting religious or cultural sites, so it’s wise to pack a scarf or lightweight long-sleeved top. Sarah advises: “For day-to-day cruising, you’ll be either enjoying onboard activities or exploring new destinations. Focus on lighter fabrics, such as cotton or linen, which are more breathable, ensuring your items suit your chosen destination and climate. For example, a pair of cotton pull-on shorts would be perfect for exploring the Caribbean, but you may want to switch these out with some cropped cotton trousers for cooler locations.   Evenings on Board Not every evening will be formal. Most nights, smart casual is the norm. For men, this might mean chinos or dark jeans with a polo or button-down shirt. For women, casual dresses, skirts, or trousers with a blouse work well. Trainers are often fine, but some dining venues prefer closed shoes.   Final Tips A neutral colour palette helps you create different outfits from fewer pieces. Include a foldable raincoat, even for warm destinations, as weather at sea can change quickly. With a bit of planning, you can enjoy your cruise feeling comfortable and appropriately dressed for every part of the journey.Fancy winning a free cruise and a holiday wardrobe to go with it? Our experience on board Sky Princess

Our experience on board Sky Princess

Embarkation & First Impressions  My embarkation experience in Hamburg couldn’t have been easier, it was just me getting on that day, so the process was super quick and stress-free.  As soon as I stepped on board, I was blown away. The ship is absolutely stunning. I loved the modern design and how well the layout flows — it all just makes sense. The Piazza which is the main, or atrium, immediately caught my eye. It’s the heart of the ship and such a beautiful space — elegant, bright, and full of life.  My Balcony Stateroom  I stayed in a Balcony Stateroom, and I have to say, it was one of the most comfortable cabins  accommodation I’ve ever experienced. The pillows were the best I’ve ever had (I wish I could’ve taken them home!), and there were loads of space and storage. The layout worked perfectly, making it easy to relax and keep everything organised.   Entertainment & Activities  There was plenty to do on board, even on a shorter sailing like mine. I went to two of the main shows, the 80s Show and Opera Rock, and both were absolutely fantastic. The production quality really impressed me.  My favourite was definitely Opera Rock. It was so unique and different from anything I’ve seen before, a truly amazing production. From the moment it began, the music, costumes, and stage design transported me into a completely different world.  I also joined in on the silent disco, karaoke, and a quiz night, which were all great fun and created such a lively atmosphere on board.   Dining & Drinks  The dining experience on Sky Princess was incredible. There was a great variety of venues, and the food quality was consistently excellent. I loved the range of choices available, and even the buffet offered fantastic options.  I dined at the Main Dining Room, Sabatini’s, and the buffet. My favourite dish had to be the lamb chops from the Main Dining Room, cooked to perfection!  If I had to choose a favourite dining experience, it would be Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria. It’s a beautiful venue offering a five-course menu (though I only managed two courses because there was just so much food!). The service and atmosphere made it a memorable meal, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone sailing on Sky Princess.  Service & the Medallion Experience  The service throughout my sailing was fantastic. The crew were friendly, professional, and quick to help, even when there was a small issue with my Princess Premier package not activating properly, it was resolved straight away.  I absolutely loved the MedallionClass™ experience. It’s such a standout feature that really enhances your time on board. From unlocking your stateroom door automatically to ordering a drink from anywhere on the ship, it makes everything feel effortless.  One of my favourite parts was being able to add “shipmates” in the app — perfect if you’re travelling with friends or family. You can easily see where everyone is on the ship, which is such a clever touch.    Overall Thoughts  Overall, my experience on Sky Princess was fantastic. Princess Cruises is one of my favourite cruise lines, and this trip reminded me why. The ship itself is beautiful, with plenty of venues, great entertainment, and an amazing layout. The atrium was the standout for me, it’s truly the hub of the ship and such a wonderful space to spend time in.  There were lots of families on board too, and it’s clear that Sky Princess caters perfectly for all age groups, from grandparents to young children.  If someone asked me whether I’d recommend this ship, my answer would be a definite yes. Everything about Sky Princess exceeded my expectations, and I can see exactly why it gets such positive feedback from our customers.    My Top Tip  If you’re sailing with Princess, make the most of the MedallionClass features. Whether it’s finding your shipmates, ordering a drink from your sun lounger, or just enjoying how smooth everything feels, it truly enhances the experience. It’s one of the best innovations I’ve seen at sea!  If you have any questions about sailing aboard Sky Princess or would like to learn more about our latest cruise offers, our expert team is here to help. Can You Get Wi-Fi On A Cruise? How To Stay Connected onboard

Can You Get Wi-Fi On A Cruise? How To Stay Connected onboard

Can You Get Wi-Fi On A Cruise? How To Stay Connected onboard Exclusive Cruise Deals   If you’ve ever wondered, can you get Wi-Fi on a cruise?, you’re not alone. For many first time cruisers, staying connected while at sea can be important to the overall cruising experience. Whether it’s keeping in touch with loved ones, sharing holiday moments, or catching up on work, knowing how cruise ship Wi-Fi works can make your trip much smoother. Cruise Wi-Fi is different from your home broadband and if you are not looking for a completely unplugged sailing, understanding how onboard Wi-Fi works and what to expect on your cruise will help you stay connected. Can you get Wi-Fi on a cruise and how does it work? The simple answer to the question, can you get Wi-Fi on a cruise? is yes but Wi-Fi on board operates differently than what you are used to on land. Cruise ships rely on satellite technology as onboard Wi-Fi is powered by satellites orbiting the earth allowing you to have internet access in the middle of the ocean and remain connected as you traverse through remote areas. This process allows you to stay connected on board but it also comes with some limitations especially when the ship is in more remote areas. So can you get Wi-Fi on a cruise that is fast and reliable? It depends. A lot of Cruise lines like Royal Caribbean Cruises, P&O Cruises, MSC Cruises and more have invested in starlink and other satellite providers to improve connection speed and stability onboard. Cruise Wi-Fi is generally not included in your fare unless stated otherwise and must be purchased separately through a daily or voyage-long internet package. Some packages are priced per device, while others allow multiple devices to be connected at once. Cruise Wi-Fi packages When considering the question, can you get Wi-Fi on a cruise,  it is also important to think about what kind of access you actually need. Cruise Wi-Fi packages are tailored to the specific cruise line and are usually sold in different tiers based on your intended usage and how many devices you have. Cruise Wi-Fi usually fall under three categories Basic Plans - These are usually the most affordable options and are perfect for light users who want to send messages, browse social media or light internet browsing. They are ideal if you want to immerse yourself in the full cruise experience and still stay in touch. Standard or Surf plans - Standard plans offer broader internet access, photo sharing, full social media usage and basic streaming. Advanced or Premium plans - The most advanced packages are perfect for full browsing, video conferencing, work remotely or access to streaming platforms like Netflix or YouTube. If you know in advance that you will need Wi-Fi onboard, it is often cheaper to purchase your Wi-Fi package online with many cruise lines offering early booking discounts and exclusive deals before you set sail. Cruise lines use different names for their Wi-Fi packages, although the structure is similar, prices may depend on the destination, ship and the duration of your cruise. Cruise lines that include Wi-Fi as a standard Some cruise lines offer Wi-fi as part of the fare allowing you to sail without paying an extra charge for a package. This allows you to stay connected without worrying about extra costs during your cruise holiday. Virgin Voyages   Virgin Voyages is one of the modern cruise lines that does not only offer adults only cruises but makes the experience more unforgettable with Wi-Fi and other perks included in every sailing. This plan allows you to use social media, surf the internet and most of your online activities   Viking Cruises     Whether you are going away on a River cruise or exploring on an Ocean cruise, Viking cruises offer free Wi-Fi on all their ships and rely on the VSAT satellite. The Wi-Fi onboard may be limited to usage per day so if you are a heavy user, you might have to download large files before getting onboard.   Regent Seven Seas Cruises     One of the few fully all inclusive luxury cruise lines, you don’t have to worry about any extra charges on Wi-Fi as everything is included in your cruise holiday with Regent Seven Seas Cruises.   Silversea Cruises     Luxury cruise lines usually offer perks like Wi-Fi included in your cruise fare and Silversea cruises is no exception. Whether you are going away on an adventure onboard an expedition cruise or sailing the seas in luxury, you will be connected throughout your holiday. While a lot of mainstream cruise lines still charge for Wi-Fi, you can find promotional offers that include discounts or complimentary Wi-Fi as part of a bigger deal when booking your cruise. If staying online is important to you, itis worth prioritising cruise lines that include reliable Wi-Fi or find our exclusive cruise deals for the best price guaranteed   Tips and other ways to stay connected while cruising While you can get Wi-fi on a cruise, there are other ways for you to stay connected without relying on the ship’s network completely. When docked in port, you can take advantage of reliable public Wi-Fi in terminals, Cafés, shopping areas and even restaurants. This is usually faster and more reliable so you can download large files that might be slower to download on board. Downloading your content like films, music, ebooks, maps and more pre- embarkation can also allow you to stay connected as it frees up traffic and limits your background usage. You can also consider purchasing an eSIM or travel SIM with an international plan as it is more affordable than roaming which can incur more charges, make sure your device is unlocked but note that this works best on port days. Whether you are going away on a long getaway onboard a Mediterranean cruise or setting sail on a short cruise closer to home and you are wondering, can you get Wi-Fi on a cruise that ticks all your boxes? Our expert concierges are always available to answer all your questions and offer recommendations. Exclusive Cruise Deals
