Seattle to Alaska cruise: Things to do before your cruise

Seattle to Alaska cruise: Things to do before your cruise  If you're planning an Alaska cruise from Seattle, it’s tempting to arrive the day before your sailing, spend a night near the port and head straight onto your ship. But after spending a week exploring Washington State, I discovered that Seattle is much more than a convenient starting point for an Alaska cruise.    From Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market and waterfront to whale watching, mountains, beaches, temperate rainforest and national parks, there’s an incredible amount to see before or after your cruise.    I visited Seattle as part of a seven-day trip combining city sightseeing, cruise ship visits and adventures across Washington State. If you're considering adding a few days to your Alaska cruise from Seattle, here’s what I discovered.    Why combine Seattle with an Alaska cruise?  Seattle is one of the most popular departure points for Alaska cruises, and it makes an excellent starting point for a longer holiday.    The city itself is worth exploring, but its location also makes it easy to discover more of Washington State. In Seattle, you can experience coastline, mountains, wildlife, national parks and rainforest.    That means you can turn a week-long Alaska cruise into a much longer cruise and stay holiday, with time on land before or after your sailing.    For me, that was the biggest surprise of the trip. I originally thought of Seattle as somewhere to spend a night or two before an Alaska cruise. By the end of the week, I realised it could easily be a holiday destination in its own right.      Day 1: Flying from London to Seattle  My trip started at Heathrow, where I flew with Delta in Premium Select.    Having never flown Delta before, I was impressed by the additional comfort compared with economy. Premium Select offered priority check-in and boarding, a welcome drink, an amenity kit, memory foam pillow, blanket and noise-cancelling headphones.    The wider seat, additional legroom and adjustable footrest made a noticeable difference on the 12-hour flight to the US. There was also a large entertainment screen with a wide selection of films and TV series.    Food and drinks were served throughout the flight, including an evening meal, snacks and drinks, followed by pizza and dessert before landing.    Another useful benefit when you're combining a land stay with a cruise is the additional checked luggage allowance. When you're packing for an Alaska cruise, having extra space can be particularly useful because you may need everything from warm layers and waterproofs to lighter clothing for exploring Seattle.    My tip: allow time for Seattle immigration    If you're flying from the UK to Seattle, remember to allow plenty of time for arrival formalities.    Eligible travellers may also be able to use the Mobile Passport Control app to submit their passport information in advance and access a dedicated processing queue.    Once we had arrived in Seattle, we headed to our hotel for the next two nights.    The Hyatt Regency was a great base for exploring the city. It was around a 10-minute walk from Pike Place Market and close to public transport, making it easy to get around without relying on a car.      Day 2: Exploring Seattle and visiting Holland America Line's Eurodam  The second day began with a visit to Holland America Line's Eurodam.    Eurodam spends the summer season sailing from Seattle to Alaska, with itineraries visiting destinations including Juneau, Ketchikan and Sitka.    Holland America Line has a long history in Alaska, dating back to 1947, and the cruise line's experience in the region is one of the reasons it remains a popular choice for an Alaska cruise from Seattle.    What is Eurodam like?  Stepping onboard Eurodam, I immediately noticed how different it felt from some of the     Stepping onboard Eurodam, I immediately noticed how different it felt from some of the larger, newer cruise ships.    The ship has a more classic and traditional feel, with a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of places to eat, listen to music and unwind.    With space for around 2,700 guests, Eurodam felt large enough to offer plenty to do while still being easy to navigate.    We also had lunch at Pinnacle Grill, one of the ship’s speciality restaurants. As a vegetarian, I was particularly pleased with the choice available.    One of the things that stood out about Holland America Line was how much of the onboard experience is designed around the destination, particularly when sailing in Alaska. The cruise line’s Alaska Up Close programme brings the region to life through expert-led talks, cooking demonstrations, local food and opportunities to learn more about the wildlife, landscapes and culture you’ll encounter along the way.    There are also some great opportunities to experience Alaska from the ship, from spotting wildlife and dramatic scenery to sailing past glaciers. Holland America Line’s Alaska itineraries can also include experiences such as Glacier Discovery, giving guests the chance to see some of the region’s spectacular scenery up close.    Food is another part of the experience. Holland America Line’s Port to Plate programme highlights locally sourced seafood, including Alaskan seafood, giving guests the chance to enjoy produce connected to the destination they’re visiting.    For me, that was one of the biggest takeaways from sailing with Holland America Line: Alaska isn’t simply the backdrop to the cruise. The destination is brought into the experience onboard, from the food and entertainment to the expert knowledge and scenery outside your window.    Things to do in Seattle  After lunch, we headed into the city.    One of my favourite stops was Olympic Sculpture Park. Located on the Seattle waterfront, it offers views across Puget Sound, Elliott Bay, the Olympic Mountains and downtown Seattle.    From there, we walked to Seattle Aquarium, where we learned about conservation work taking place in the region, including efforts to reduce underwater noise and protect local whale populations.    In the evening, we headed to Smith Tower.    Seattle's oldest skyscraper combines history with panoramic city views, making it a great option if you want to see the city from above while enjoying a drink.    We finished the day at Ivar's Acres of Clams on the waterfront. The restaurant is well known for its seafood and clam chowder, making it a fitting place to end our first full day in Seattle.      Day 3: Star Princess, Pike Place Market and Boeing  We started the morning at one of Seattle's most recognisable attractions: the Original Starbucks.    The store can get busy, so arriving early helped us avoid the queues.    From there, we headed to Pike Place Market, one of Seattle's most famous landmarks.    Established in 1907, the market is one of the oldest continuously operating public markets in the US. We watched the famous fishmongers throwing fish between the stalls before exploring the market ourselves.    If you're visiting Seattle before an Alaska cruise, I'd definitely recommend making time for Pike Place Market. But Seattle is just the beginning of what makes a Princess Alaska holiday interesting.    Princess Cruises offers more than just a cruise through Alaska, with the option to combine your sailing with time in the wilderness through its Princess Wilderness Lodges and CruiseTours. These land-and-sea holidays can take you beyond the coastal ports and into Alaska's interior, with opportunities to experience destinations such as Denali National Park.    The lodges also give you a very different perspective on Alaska compared with simply visiting by ship. Instead of waking up to a view of the ocean, you can spend time surrounded by forests, mountains and Alaska's wildlife before or after your cruise.   For anyone planning an Alaska cruise, it's worth looking at the different cruise-and-land options available. A few extra days in Alaska's interior can turn a cruise into a much bigger holiday experience.      Star Princess from Seattle  Our next stop was another cruise ship: Princess Cruises' Star Princess.    One of the newest and largest ships in the Princess fleet, Star Princess also sails from Seattle during the summer season, with itineraries visiting destinations such as Juneau, Victoria and Skagway.    We had the opportunity to see some of the Sanctuary suites and visit the adults-only Sanctuary Club.    The area includes a private pool, bar and buffet, along with cabanas available to hire.    The highlight of my visit was lunch at Umai Teppanyaki, one of the ship's speciality restaurants. The food was excellent, but our chef and host Victor made the experience particularly memorable.    If you're looking for an Alaska cruise where the ship is an important part of the holiday, Star Princess is definitely one to consider.    Boeing Future of Flight  After leaving Seattle, we travelled to Everett to visit Boeing's Future of Flight.    We toured the Boeing assembly building and saw aircraft at different stages of production.    I'm not usually someone who would automatically put an aviation museum on my holiday itinerary, but I found the experience fascinating. If you're interested in aircraft or engineering, it's well worth adding to your Seattle itinerary.    Day 4: Whale watching from Seattle  Whale watching was the part of the trip I was looking forward to most.    We travelled to Edmonds, a coastal town around 30 minutes from Seattle, where we boarded the Puget Sound Express.    The boat is designed specifically for wildlife viewing, with outdoor seating, viewing decks and an indoor cabin. There are also naturalist presentations and route tracking throughout the trip.    We were incredibly lucky with the wildlife we saw, including killer whales and grey whales, as well as a variety of birdlife.    Seeing the whales in their natural environment was one of the highlights of my entire week.    Should you go whale watching before an Alaska cruise?  Absolutely.    If you're spending several days in Seattle before your cruise, a whale watching excursion is a fantastic way to experience the region's wildlife before heading north to Alaska.    It's also a good reminder that you don't have to wait until your cruise reaches Alaska to experience incredible wildlife.    Day 4: Seattle to Olympic National Park  After whale watching, we took a local ferry to Kingston before continuing towards Port Angeles, the gateway to Olympic National Park.    We stayed at Olympic Lodge, which made a comfortable base for exploring the area.    The hotel had a cosy, rustic feel, with an outdoor heated pool and comfortable spaces to relax after a busy day.      Day 5: Olympic National Park and Ruby Beach  The following morning, we headed into Olympic National Park.    Our first stop was Hurricane Ridge, a mountainous area more than 5,000 feet above sea level.    The journey itself was spectacular, but the views from Hurricane Ridge were even better. From the top, we could see across the Olympic Mountains and surrounding landscape.    We also took a short hike, giving us the chance to experience the alpine scenery at closer range.    For anyone looking to add a national park to a Seattle cruise and stay, Olympic National Park is a fantastic option.    Ruby Beach  Next, we headed towards Ruby Beach on the Pacific coast.    The landscape couldn't have been more different from Hurricane Ridge. Instead of mountains, we were surrounded by driftwood, tide pools and rugged coastline.    It was one of those places where you can simply stop and take in the scenery.   That contrast is what makes Washington State so impressive. Within a single day, you can experience mountains and Pacific coastline.    We spent the night at Lake Quinault Lodge, where I was lucky enough to have a room overlooking the lake.    Day 6: Olympic National Park rainforest and Tacoma  Our final morning in the Olympic National Park area took us into the rainforest.    Our local guide showed us around the forest, including an area nicknamed the Valley of Giants because of its huge trees.    What surprised me most was just how dramatically the landscape had changed. In less than 24 hours, we'd experienced mountains, beaches and rainforest.    From there, we headed back towards Seattle, stopping in Tacoma.    Things to do in Tacoma  One of our stops was LeMay – America's Car Museum, home to a huge collection of cars spanning more than a century.    Even if you're not a dedicated car enthusiast, it's an interesting way to spend a few hours.    We then checked into Hotel Murano, which was unlike anywhere else I'd stayed during the trip.    The hotel combines accommodation with art, with different exhibits throughout the building.    Tacoma also has strong connections to glass artist Dale Chihuly, whose influence can be seen throughout the city.    Day 7: Mount Rainier and flying home  Our final day was another big one.    We travelled to Mount Rainier National Park, home to Mount Rainier, an active volcano and the highest peak in Washington State.    We headed towards Paradise, one of the most popular areas of the national park, where we met our guide for a short hike.    The goal was to see the snow-capped summit, but I had another item on my wildlife wish list: a bear.    Our guide warned us that sightings weren't guaranteed, but incredibly, we managed to see two.    After an already incredible week exploring Washington State, it felt like the perfect way to finish the trip.      Flying home from Seattle  It was then time to head back to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and begin the journey home.    I flew Virgin Atlantic Upper Class and found the experience a great way to finish the trip.    Before boarding, we used the Delta Sky Club at the airport, where we could relax, enjoy food and drinks and make use of the facilities.    Onboard, we were welcomed with drinks and nibbles before enjoying a three-course meal.    One of the features I particularly liked was the choice between being woken for a full breakfast before landing or having a quicker express breakfast closer to arrival.    There was also a self-service snack and drinks area called the Wander Wall, located in the galley for Upper Class passengers.    The seat converted into a fully flat bed, and pyjamas were provided for the overnight flight.    After dinner, I got changed, settled in and managed to get some sleep. I opted for the express breakfast before landing and arrived back at Heathrow feeling much more refreshed than I expected.    Is Seattle worth adding to an Alaska cruise?  After this trip, my answer is definitely yes.    If you're booking an Alaska cruise from Seattle, I'd strongly recommend considering a few extra nights before or after your sailing rather than treating Seattle as simply a place to board your ship.    You could spend a couple of days exploring Seattle itself, visiting Pike Place Market, the waterfront and the city's attractions. If you have longer, you can venture further into Washington State for whale watching, national parks, mountains, beaches and rainforest.    For me, that was the biggest takeaway from the trip.    An Alaska cruise is an incredible holiday in its own right, but adding a Seattle cruise and stay gives you the opportunity to experience even more of the landscapes and wildlife that make the Pacific Northwest so special.    My top things to do before an Alaska cruise from Seattle    If you're short on time, these would be my priorities:  Explore Pike Place Market – one of Seattle's most famous landmarks and a great introduction to the city. Go whale watching – one of the highlights of my entire trip. Visit Olympic National Park – particularly Hurricane Ridge and Ruby Beach. See Mount Rainier – a spectacular addition for anyone who loves nature and hiking. Explore Seattle's waterfront – including Olympic Sculpture Park and Seattle Aquarium. Take a longer cruise and stay – if you have the time, Washington State is well worth exploring beyond Seattle.    Ready to add Seattle to your Alaska cruise?  Seattle is one of the best starting points for an Alaska cruise, but there's no reason your holiday has to begin and end at the cruise terminal.    Whether you want a short city break before sailing or a longer Washington State adventure, combining a Seattle stay with an Alaska cruise can turn an already memorable holiday into an even bigger experience.    And after spending a week exploring the area myself, I'd highly recommend giving yourself more time than just one night.

Cunard Drinks Packages: Prices, What's Included and Are They Worth It?

Cunard Drinks Packages: Prices, What's Included and Are They Worth It?  A glass of wine with dinner, a speciality coffee in the morning or a cocktail before the evening's entertainment - drinks are all part of the Cunard experience.    But if you're planning a Cunard cruise, you may be wondering whether to pay for drinks as you go or choose one of the Cunard drinks packages.    There are several options to choose from, including alcohol-free packages, alcoholic drinks packages and Cunard's newer Signature Packages, which combine drinks with Wi-Fi and dining credit.    Here's what you need to know before choosing.      What drinks packages does Cunard offer?  Cunard’s Signature Package gives you a convenient way to enjoy a wider selection of drinks and added onboard benefits throughout your cruise.    Upgrade to the Signature Package from £60pp per day and receive:  Everyday beverage collection – enjoy a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including beverages priced up to $13.50 per drink Speciality dining credit – receive up to $50pp per cruise to spend at selected speciality dining venues Unlimited gelato Essential Wi-Fi plan  The Signature Package combines drinks with other onboard extras, making it an option for guests who want to add more to their cruise experience.    Package pricing and inclusions can vary by sailing, so always check the specific offer available for your cruise before booking.    What's included in the Cunard Beverage Collection?  The Beverage Collection is Cunard's everyday alcoholic drinks package.    It covers alcoholic and alcohol-free drinks priced up to US$13.50 per serving. If you choose a drink above that amount, you can pay the difference.    The package also includes the benefits of the Premium Alcohol-Free Collection and gives you 15% off Wine and Bar Academy activities and bottled wine.    It's likely to suit guests who enjoy a mixture of drinks during their cruise without necessarily choosing the most premium options.    What's included in the Premium Beverage Collection?  The Premium Beverage Collection gives you a higher drinks allowance, covering alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks priced up to US$20 per serving.    It includes options such as fine wines, champagne and craft cocktails, with the option to pay the difference on drinks above the US$20 limit.    You'll also receive 25% off Wine and Bar Academy activities and bottled wine, alongside the benefits of the Beverage Collection.    If you particularly enjoy wine, champagne or cocktails, this is the package to compare with your expected spending.    What if you don't drink alcohol?  Cunard has two alcohol-free options, so you don't need to pay for an alcoholic package to enjoy a drinks package.    The Alcohol-Free Collection includes unlimited fountain soda alongside selected soft drinks, juices and hot drinks priced up to US$4.50.    The Premium Alcohol-Free Collection increases the choice, including selected alcohol-free cocktails, bottled mineral water, freshly squeezed juices, smoothies, milkshakes and speciality hot drinks up to US$12.    For anyone who enjoys speciality coffee, mocktails or fresh juices throughout the day, the premium alcohol-free option could be worth considering.    Is there a limit on Cunard drinks packages?  Yes. While the packages offer a wide selection of included drinks, Cunard's terms and conditions include limits and restrictions on their use.    For alcoholic beverages, there is a maximum of 15 alcoholic drinks per guest during a 24-hour period. The limit resets at midnight.    The package is also intended for the individual guest who purchased it and cannot simply be used to buy drinks for other passengers.    Do both people in a cabin need a drinks package?  This is an important point to check before you buy.   Cunard's drinks package terms state that eligible guests sharing a stateroom generally need to purchase the same World of Drinks Collection, subject to Cunard's specific rules and exceptions.    That means you should calculate the cost for each eligible guest, rather than assuming one package can cover everyone in the cabin.    If you're travelling with children or guests who don't drink alcohol, check the terms that apply to your particular booking before purchasing.    Can you buy a Cunard drinks package onboard?  Yes, although booking in advance can offer better value.    Cunard currently states that its drinks collections can be purchased through My Cunard, with pre-cruise prices offering a 10% saving compared with the equivalent onboard price.    If you already know you'll want a package, it's worth checking your booking before you sail rather than waiting until you're onboard.    Are Cunard Signature Packages the same as drinks packages?  No – and this is where Cunard's current offering gets particularly interesting.    The newer Cunard Signature Packages bundle several onboard extras together rather than providing drinks alone.    There are two options:    Signature Package  The Signature Package includes:  Beverage Collection Essential Wi-Fi Dining credit  For a 10 - 14 night voyage, for example, the package currently costs £60 per person, per day and includes US$50 dining credit.    Premium Signature Package  The Premium option includes:  Premium Beverage Collection Premium Wi-Fi Dining credit  For a 10 - 14 night voyage, the current price is £70 per person, per day, including US$80 dining credit.    The amount of dining credit and the daily price vary according to the length of the voyage.    Cunard says Signature Packages can save guests up to 30% compared with purchasing the included elements separately, although availability is limited to eligible voyages.    Which Cunard package is right for you?  Rather than automatically choosing the most expensive option, think about how you'll actually spend your time onboard.    The Alcohol-Free Collection could suit you if you mainly want soft drinks, juices and hot drinks.    The Premium Alcohol-Free Collection is worth considering if speciality coffees, mocktails, smoothies and bottled water are more important to you.    The Beverage Collection could be a good middle ground if you enjoy wine, beer, spirits or cocktails but don't regularly choose premium drinks.    The Premium Beverage Collection makes more sense if champagne, fine wines and craft cocktails are likely to feature heavily in your cruise.    A Signature Package could be particularly interesting if you already planned to buy Wi-Fi and dine in alternative restaurants, as you're combining all three into one package.    Is a Cunard drinks package worth it?  That depends entirely on what you drink.    If you're likely to have several included drinks throughout the day, a package can make budgeting easier and means you don't have to think about the price every time you order.    However, if you only have the occasional glass of wine or cocktail, paying individually could work out better.    The best way to decide is to consider a typical sea day. I’ve been onboard Legend of the Seas: my honest review of Royal Caribbean’s newest ship

I’ve been onboard Legend of the Seas: my honest review of Royal Caribbean’s newest ship  There are some cruise ships you step onboard and immediately know you’re going to need more than a few days to explore them properly.    Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas is one of them.    I recently spent time onboard Legend of the Seas during a Mediterranean sailing, getting to experience everything from its restaurants, entertainment and neighbourhoods to the cabin, pools and some of the ship’s headline attractions.    And after spending several days onboard, I can safely say this isn’t a ship you book simply because it is new. Legend of the Seas genuinely gives you a lot to discover.    As Royal Caribbean’s newest Icon Class ship, Legend of the Seas shares plenty with her sisters, Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas, but there are also some experiences that make this ship distinctly her own. These include Royal Railway – Legend Station, Hollywoodland Supper Club, new AquaDome Market food stalls and a brand-new production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.    So, what is it actually like to sail on Legend of the Seas?    Here’s my first-hand review, including the things that surprised me, what I loved most and my top tips for making the most of your time onboard.      First impressions of Legend of the Seas  The first thing that hits you when you board Legend of the Seas is the sheer scale of the ship.    It is big. Really big.    But interestingly, I never felt like I was constantly trying to work out where I was. The ship is split into eight distinct neighbourhoods, including Royal Promenade, Central Park, Surfside, Thrill Island, Chill Island and the AquaDome, which gives different areas their own identity.    That makes a difference when you're onboard because instead of feeling like one enormous ship, each area has its own atmosphere.    One minute you can be surrounded by the energy of Royal Promenade, then you can wander through Central Park and find yourself somewhere that feels completely different.    My tip: don't try to see everything on your first day. Take some time to wander around without a plan. You’ll get your bearings much quicker and you'll inevitably find a spot you want to come back to.      The neighbourhoods make exploring the ship part of the experience  One of my favourite things about Legend of the Seas was simply walking around.    There is always something happening.    The Royal Promenade is the social hub, while Central Park offers a much calmer atmosphere. Surfside is designed with families in mind, Thrill Island is where you’ll find the adrenaline-fuelled attractions and the AquaDome combines incredible views with entertainment and dining.    Then there’s the Hideaway, complete with its suspended infinity pool, which offers a very different atmosphere again.    This is one of those ships where you choose to spend your time can completely change your experience.    If you want action, you can find it.    If you want somewhere to sit with a drink and watch the world go by, you can find that too.    And if you’re travelling with a family or a group with completely different interests, that variety is a huge advantage.      My cabin: an Infinite Ocean View Balcony  I stayed in an Infinite Balcony cabin, which gave me the chance to experience one of the cabin concepts that has become such a talking point across Icon Class.    The Infinite Balcony is designed to bring the outside in, with the balcony effectively becoming part of the cabin when the window is opened.    For me, one of the biggest advantages was being able to enjoy the feeling of having an outdoor space without necessarily having to step outside.    And there is something particularly nice about opening the balcony and letting that Mediterranean air into your cabin in the morning.    My cabin tip  Don't underestimate the value of your cabin location.    On a ship this size, you will be doing a lot of walking, so think about where you are likely to spend most of your time when choosing your stateroom.    If you know you’ll be spending your days around the pool deck, a cabin higher up may make sense. If you love Central Park or the Royal Promenade, consider how easy it will be to reach those areas.    And if you're unsure which cabin is right for you, this is exactly where speaking to a Cruise Expert can help.      The entertainment is a major highlight  If you think a huge ship means you’ll spend your evenings wandering around wondering what to do, think again.    I had the chance to experience several different forms of entertainment during my time onboard and one of my highlights was Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.    The production is exclusive to Legend of the Seas, making it one of the experiences you can only see on this ship.    And it isn't just the theatre.    I also watched the AquaTheater show and the ice-skating production at Absolute Zero, as well as experiencing the atmosphere around the ship after dark.    There is something quite impressive about going from a theatre production to an ice show and then finding live entertainment and bars elsewhere onboard.    My tip: check the Royal Caribbean app as soon as you board and start planning your entertainment.    Don't leave every show until the last minute.    Some performances can fill up, and there is so much happening that it is surprisingly easy to accidentally miss something you wanted to see.    Thrill Island: where the adrenaline kicks in  If you're someone who likes your cruise with a side of adrenaline, Thrill Island is going to be high on your list.    This is home to Category 6 Waterpark, with six waterslides, as well as attractions including the FlowRider and Crown's Edge.    Even if you aren't planning to go on every attraction, it is worth heading up there just to see the activity.    And if you're travelling with children or teenagers, this is likely to become one of the most popular areas of the ship.    Top tip for Category 6    Go early.    If there are specific slides you know you want to try, don't wait until the busiest part of the afternoon.    Getting there earlier means you can make the most of the attractions before the area becomes busier - and you'll still have plenty of time afterwards to explore the rest of the ship.    AquaDome is one of my favourite spaces onboard  The AquaDome is one of those places that photographs well, but feels even more impressive when you're standing inside it.    It is home to the AquaTheater, as well as dining and places to sit and take in the views.    One of the biggest changes on Legend of the Seas is the refreshed AquaDome Market, with food stalls offering options including Korean rice bowls, Mexican tacos, New Orleans-style dishes and Spanish-inspired tapas.    This quickly became one of the places I wanted to return to.    My tip: don't just visit the AquaDome when you have a show booked. Go during the day, grab something to eat and actually spend some time there.      Food: you won't struggle for choice  One thing I quickly realised onboard Legend of the Seas is that you could probably have a completely different food experience every day.    The AquaDome Market alone gives you plenty of choice, while the ship also features a huge selection of other dining venues.    Two of the most talked-about additions are Royal Railway – Legend Station and Hollywoodland Supper Club.    Royal Railway is an immersive dining experience inspired by the Silk Routes, while Hollywoodland Supper Club takes inspiration from the glamour of Hollywood's Golden Age.    Even if you're not planning to book specialty dining, I would recommend exploring what is included in your cruise before you decide what extras you actually need.    There is already a lot of choice.    Don't forget the quieter parts of the ship  With everything happening onboard, it would be very easy to spend your entire cruise chasing the next activity.    But one of my top tips would be the opposite.    Slow down.    Find somewhere you like sitting with a coffee.    Walk through Central Park.    Grab a drink in the evening.    Sit and watch the sea.    Legend of the Seas has plenty of big, headline-grabbing attractions, but some of my favourite moments were simply being onboard and taking everything in.    That is something I think is important to remember when sailing on a ship this size: you don't have to do everything.      What surprised me most about Legend of the Seas  Before sailing, I knew Legend of the Seas was going to be big.    What I didn't necessarily expect was how much there would be to do without it feeling like you had to constantly be doing something.    The different neighbourhoods help create that balance.    You can have a day packed with waterslides, shows and activities, or you can completely change pace and spend time around Central Park, the AquaDome or one of the quieter areas onboard.    It makes the ship incredibly flexible.    And that is probably my biggest takeaway from my time onboard.   Legend of the Seas isn't just about one big attraction. It's the variety.    My top tips for sailing on Legend of the Seas    1. Explore the ship on day one    Don't spend your first day only finding the buffet and your cabin.    Walk.    Take the lifts, use the stairs and explore the different neighbourhoods. You'll quickly work out where your favourite areas are.      2. Download the Royal Caribbean app before you sail    You'll want access to your daily schedule, reservations and onboard information, particularly when there is so much happening.      3. Book your must-see entertainment early    If there's a particular show you really want to see, don't leave it until the final night. Plan around the entertainment rather than trying to fit it in afterwards.      4. Don't try to do everything    This is probably the most important tip.    You won't experience every restaurant, activity, show and attraction in one sailing - and that's okay. Choose your absolute must-dos and leave room for spontaneous moments.      5. Visit popular attractions at quieter times    For the waterpark and other headline attractions, consider going earlier in the day or when other guests are ashore.      6. Give yourself time to discover the ship    Some of the best parts of Legend of the Seas aren't necessarily the things you planned to see. Allow yourself time to wander.      7. Make time for the entertainment    Don't think of the shows as something to do only when the weather isn't great. The productions are a major part of the onboard experience.      8. Choose your cabin carefully    Think about how you actually cruise. Do you want a balcony? Are you likely to spend most of your time around the pool? Would being closer to certain neighbourhoods make your holiday easier? Your cabin location can make a difference on a ship this large.      So, is Legend of the Seas worth booking?  After spending time onboard, yes - but the real question is whether it's the right Royal Caribbean ship for you.    If you want a cruise where there is always something happening, Legend of the Seas is an obvious contender.    If you're travelling with children or teenagers, the combination of Surfside, Thrill Island, Category 6 and the huge range of entertainment gives families plenty to fill their days with.    If you're travelling as a couple or with friends, there are also plenty of places to escape the family-focused areas and enjoy the ship at your own pace.    And if you're simply someone who loves exploring a new cruise ship, Legend of the Seas gives you a lot to discover.    It is currently the newest Icon Class ship, and Royal Caribbean has used it to build on what worked with Icon and Star while introducing its own dining and entertainment experiences.   For me, that's what made my time onboard so enjoyable.    I didn't feel like I'd seen everything by the time I left.    And honestly, that's probably the best sign of all.    Ready to experience Legend of the Seas?  Whether you're looking for a family holiday packed with things to do, a Mediterranean escape with plenty of time to explore ashore or simply want to experience one of Royal Caribbean's newest ships for yourself, Legend of the Seas is one to have on your radar.    From its first European season, the ship has been sailing Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona and Rome, before heading to the Caribbean later in 2026.    Want to know what a cruise on Legend of the Seas could look like for you? So, if you’re already counting down to your cruise, here’s everything you need to know about how RoyalUp Experiences works, what you can bid on and what happens if your offer is accepted.    What is RoyalUp experiences?  RoyalUp Experiences allows selected Royal Caribbean guests to bid on eligible cruise experiences.    Rather than simply purchasing an experience at its standard price, invited guests can make an offer for the experiences available to their booking.    The programme currently includes experiences such as:  Cabanas Daybeds Casitas Beach club products Other eligible experiences  Royal Caribbean is also expanding the programme to include additional experience types, so the selection could grow over time.    It’s important to remember that not every cruise, booking, stateroom category or experience will be eligible.    How does RoyalUp experiences work?  If your booking is selected, Royal Caribbean will send you an invitation by email.    You can then view the experiences available to you and decide whether you want to submit an offer.    Once you've made an offer, Royal Caribbean reviews it individually. An offer isn't automatically accepted and receiving an invitation doesn't guarantee that you'll secure an experience.    If your offer is accepted, Royal Caribbean will notify you by email. Offers can be accepted from the time they are submitted until one day before your sailing's departure.    One of the more interesting aspects of the programme is that you may even be able to make an offer for an experience that is currently sold out.    Why? Availability can change if another guest cancels, giving Royal Caribbean the opportunity to fulfil an offer later.      What can you bid on?  The exact experiences available depend on your sailing and booking, but RoyalUp Experiences can include cabanas, daybeds, casitas and beach club products.    This could be particularly appealing if you're planning a cruise that includes a day at one of Royal Caribbean's destinations and want to make your time ashore feel a little more special.    The programme is still being expanded, meaning additional experience types could be introduced in the future.    Can you bid on a Royal Caribbean cabana?  Yes. Cabanas can be included in RoyalUp Experiences, giving selected guests another opportunity to secure a private space during their cruise.    Royal Caribbean offers different cabana experiences depending on the destination, including options at Perfect Day at CocoCay and Royal Beach Club Paradise Island.   However, successfully securing an experience doesn't necessarily mean you'll be able to choose its exact location.    If the experience requires an assigned location, Royal Caribbean will allocate it based on availability. A specific location or number cannot be guaranteed.    Who is eligible for RoyalUp experiences?  This is an important point because RoyalUp Experiences aren't available to every Royal Caribbean guest.    Royal Caribbean selects the cruises, bookings, stateroom categories and experiences that can participate.    During the initial phase, invitations have been sent only to selected bookings on Icon of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas.    So, even if you're sailing on one of these ships, you aren't guaranteed an invitation.    If you are selected, the invitation applies only to the guest and booking identified in the email. It is non-transferable.    What if you're travelling with family or friends?  Travelling together doesn't necessarily mean every guest will receive the same RoyalUp Experiences opportunity.    Royal Caribbean reviews bookings individually and may not invite or accept offers from every stateroom travelling together.    This is particularly worth remembering if your group has booked multiple cabins. One booking could receive an invitation while another does not.    Can you choose your cabana or daybed location?    Not necessarily.    For experiences that require an assigned location, Royal Caribbean will allocate the location based on availability.    That means you could successfully secure a cabana or daybed without being able to choose its exact position.    If location is particularly important to you, this is something to consider before submitting an offer.       Is RoyalUp experiences the same as RoyalUp?  No – although the names are similar, they are two different programmes.    RoyalUp allows eligible guests to bid for a stateroom upgrade.    RoyalUp Experiences is focused on additional experiences, including things such as cabanas, daybeds and beach club products.    So, if you receive a RoyalUp Experiences invitation, you're not being offered a chance to move into a better cabin. Instead, you're being given the opportunity to bid for an additional experience.    Are additional promotions included?  No. Offers made through RoyalUp Experiences do not include additional promotions.    The programme simply gives eligible guests the opportunity to submit an offer for selected experiences.    Is RoyalUp experiences worth it?  For guests who receive an invitation, it could be an exciting way to try to secure an experience they'd otherwise struggle to book.    The biggest attraction is the ability to choose what you're willing to offer, rather than automatically paying the standard price.    Of course, there's no guarantee you'll be successful. Your offer must be accepted, and the experience needs to be available.    But if there's a cabana, daybed or other experience you've had your eye on, RoyalUp Experiences could give you another chance to secure it.    RoyalUp experiences FAQs  Q - Is RoyalUp Experiences available to everyone?  A - No. Royal Caribbean is gradually expanding the programme and selects specific cruises, bookings, stateroom categories and experiences for participation.    Q - Which ships currently offer RoyalUp Experiences?  A - During the initial phase, invitations have been sent to selected bookings on Icon of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas.    Q - Can I bid on a sold-out experience?  A - You may be able to. Royal Caribbean can keep offers open for experiences that are currently sold out in case availability changes, such as following a cancellation.    Q - Can I transfer my RoyalUp Experiences invitation?  A - No. Invitations are non-transferable and apply only to the guest and booking identified in the invitation.    Q - When will I know if my offer has been accepted?  A - Royal Caribbean can accept offers from the time they are submitted until one day before the sailing's departure.
