What is it like cruising to the Norwegian Fjords with MSC Cruises?

What is it like cruising to the Norwegian Fjords with MSC Cruises?  Cruises To The Norwegian Fjords Our product executive Chantelle shares her unforgettable family journey aboard MSC Virtuosa through the breathtaking Norwegian Fjords. MSC Cruises  With a growing fleet of innovative ships and a strong focus on affordability for families, MSC Cruises is fast becoming a standout choice for those looking to experience the magic of the Norwegian Fjords—without sacrificing comfort or style. On Board MSC Virtuosa As a cruise specialist and parent, I’ve been lucky to experience a variety of ships—but our time aboard MSC Virtuosa was something truly special. From the moment we stepped on board, we were welcomed with warmth and energy by MSC’s amazing crew. The ship itself is beautiful—sleek, modern, and packed with features that cater to families, couples, and solo travellers. Despite being one of MSC’s newer and larger ships, Virtuosa somehow balances that wow-factor with a relaxed, easygoing vibe—something that really struck me during our days at sea. Foodies are in for a treat too. Dining is flexible and varied, with standout venues like: HOLA! Tacos – casual, fun, and delicious (don’t skip the frozen margaritas!) from £16pp pre booked, well worth it!  Marketplace Buffet – great for families with kids Kaito Sushi and other specialty restaurants that are well worth pre-booking Whether you want quick bites or a special night out, it’s easy to find your perfect spot. Our Family Stay On Board  We stayed in a Balcony Cabin, and I can’t recommend it enough for a Fjords itinerary. Waking up to mist-covered mountains, sailing past waterfalls from your own private space—it’s the kind of memory that stays with you. For families, MSC offers a variety of options to suit different needs and budgets, and what impressed me most were the generous discounts and family-first policies, including: Infants under 2 sail free Single Parent Discounts Family Comfort Offers when booking two cabins on one reference  These are thoughtful touches that make a real difference for families considering a cruise.   Exploring the Norwegian Fjords  This itinerary is pure magic. We docked in places like Haugesund, Nordfjordeid, Stavanger—each offering something truly special. What surprised me was how easy it was to explore without a formal excursion. Most ports are right at the heart of town, allowing you to stroll at your own pace, soak up the views, and discover hidden gems along the way. Our personal highlight? Sailing through Geirangerfjord at sunrise. The waterfalls, cliffs, and soft morning light created an almost cinematic moment—made even better with a coffee in hand from our balcony.   On board Activites & Entertainment  Sea days were never boring—especially with a child in tow. Between the indoor and outdoor pools, the Savannah Aquapark, and interactive arcade (don’t miss the Fun Pass deal! from £70) there was always something to do. The Himalayan Bridge high-ropes course was a thrill, and the themed nights—like White Night and 70s Disco—brought a festive buzz in the evenings. Whether you wanted to dance the night away or wind down in the Champagne Bar, the ship offered something for every energy level. Deals for MSC Cruises ships MSC Virtuosa from 2025-08-04 to 2027-12-31 Little Moments That Made a Big Difference  One little moment stood out: after a full day of exploring and a family dinner at HOLA! Tacos, we returned to our cabin to find our son’s teddy tucked in bed, with a chocolate on his pillow. It may sound small, but these personal touches really made us feel seen and looked after. The crew genuinely seemed to love being part of our experience—and that kind of hospitality is what sets MSC apart. If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring the Norwegian Fjords—and want a cruise that blends stunning scenery with family comfort and value—MSC Cruises delivers. Our fam trip aboard Virtuosa exceeded all expectations. The ship, the service, the scenery, the food… it all came together for a journey we’ll never forget.  If you have any questions about sailing with MSC Cruises or would like to know more about what offers are available, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Cruising with a baby and a toddler on-board MSC Preziosa

Cruising with a baby and a toddler on-board MSC Preziosa

Cruising with a baby and a toddler on-board MSC Preziosa View MSC Preziosa Deals I've cruised with my husband before we had kids, and without a doubt, they were our best holidays ever. Fast forward three years and we find ourselves with a two-year-old and a six-month-old about to embark on a cruise ship for the first time in what seems like forever. To cut a long story short, we all had an amazing time on-board MSC Preziosa. But, as anyone with kids will know, travelling as a family can take a bit more preparation than travelling as a couple. So, here are some handy things that I learned during our cruise with the kids. Peppa Pig World First things first, the most important item on our two-year-old's agenda – going to see Peppa. The day before our cruise we visited Peppa Pig World, which is part of Paulton’s Park. The theme park is really close to Southampton and the ideal place for anyone with young children to call at either before or after a cruise. Paulton’s Park isn’t just for Peppa fans – it is great for older kids too. It is absolutely huge and has some really good rides for everyone to enjoy.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] The food My kids have a habit of not eating on holiday. Not so long ago our two-year-old went for four days on nothing but grapes. So for us, it's important that there is plenty of choice for the kids. We are also vegetarians, so that can add to the challenge. However, we needn’t have worried. The buffet was huge, with plenty for everyone to enjoy, particularly at lunchtimes. It was great to introduce our 6-month-old to things he had never tried before, even if he did throw most of it on the floor![/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] The main restaurant The main restaurant on-board MSC Preziosa was stunning – really swanky. It was a bit daunting taking a baby and a toddler into such a nice place, but our waiter, Tri, soon put us at ease and the other diners were lovely. There were two kids’ menus – one for six to 12 months and one for 12 months plus. The staff were also happy to make adjustments to this for us, such as making a smaller portion of something from the main menu. Tri was great, always greeting the children by name and making origami animals for our toddler to play with during dinner.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] Taking a pram on-board We opted to leave our huge double pram at home and instead took a single buggy and a baby carrier. This was definitely the right choice for us – other people with side-by-side doubles found that they couldn’t unfold them in the corridors by their rooms as linen carts and trolleys often blocked the way. They had to carry the pram folded until they got to the lift area. We borrowed a second buggy from the kids club of the ship – this free service was fantastic and meant that we didn’t often use the baby carrier as the kids then had a pram each. The only downside was that it didn’t come with a rain cover so our toddler got absolutely soaked during a day out in Hamburg. Luckily she didn’t mind too much.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] The accommodation We opted for an inside stateroom. I was a bit intrigued to see how we’d all fit in there, but it was actually really spacious. When we arrived I was shocked to see there was a double bed and two bunk beds that fold out of the ceiling above – not ideal for a baby and a toddler! However, after a quick trip to guest services, someone came with a travel cot and put up a guard rail on one of the bunks so that our toddler couldn’t fall out. She actually loved it and said that it was just like Peppa Pig’s camper van. We were pleased to find a kettle in our room. This made the task of preparing milk for our six-month-old much easier. I was expecting to use the hot water in the buffet area, so having a kettle in the room was a nice surprise.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] The drinks packages We purchased an all-inclusive drinks package for £20 per person per day and found it to be excellent value for money – much cheaper than some other cruise lines. Cocktails were about £7 and a pint of beer about £4, so it is really easy to get your money worth on-board. Children under three don’t need to buy a drinks package, so we didn’t get one for Leonie. However, every time I went to the bar I ordered three drinks and nobody seemed to mind.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] The kids club There was a kids club on-board where you can leave one and two year olds for an hour at certain times. (Older kids can stay all day). Our toddler had a great time and seemed to come back with free gifts each time including a t-shirt that changes colour in the sun and a pair of fairy wings! For babies under one, parents can accompany children to play with the baby toys, but you can’t leave them there.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] The entertainment We all really enjoyed the stage shows. The dancers, singer and acrobats were so good that the children had no problem sitting and watching the shows for an hour. Our little girl's favourite performers were the ‘bendy ladies’, so much so that she decided that is what she wants to do when she grows up.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] The waterpark MSC Preziosa has an amazing kids’ waterpark. However, it only opens in good weather, so we didn’t get to use it during our late September trip around Northern Europe. I can imagine that it would be a wonderful place to enjoy during the summer months or in a warmer destination.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] The verdict To summarise – MSC Preziosa was a great ship for anyone travelling with babies or toddlers. Granted, it doesn’t have the climbing walls, ice rinks and zip-wires that you will find on some larger ships. But if you are travelling with under threes, you won’t have time for all that anyway. If you fancy sailing on-board this stunning ship, give our Cruise Concierge team a call on 0808 1234 118 for expert guidance and assistance on your booking.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row] Deals for MSC Cruises ships MSC Preziosa from 2025-08-01 to 2027-12-09 View MSC Preziosa Deals

11 Unusual Cruise Ship Cabins

11 Unusual Cruise Ship Cabins

11 Unusual Cruise Ship Cabins View Balcony Cruise Deals A cruise ship cabin is an important factor of your sailing, whether you’re a serial suite booker or a lover of inside staterooms. There are many staterooms to choose from when it comes to booking your cruise, but which are the most unusual? Here are 11 of our favourite places to rest your head which are a little out of the ordinary. Zipline Balcony Oasis of the Seas Featured in Balcony cabins which overlook the Boardwalk neighbourhood on-board Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas, passengers not only get to stay in the industry’s first in-facing balconies but also gain fantastic views of the zipline as fellow cruisers fly nine decks above them! AquaTheater Suite Oasis-Class ships Only available on the Oasis Class ships the AquaTheater Suites offer up to eight guests a large space to unwind. Their key feature, and the reason they are named ‘AquaTheater Suites’, is that they boasts a huge wraparound balcony with views to the AquaTheater and surroundings. MSC Zoe Fleetwide MSC Cruises’ latest addition of Zoe is the first-of-its-kind. Featured in all cabins aboard MSC Bellissima, and soon to be fleetwide, the assistant is able to answer hundreds of questions about life on-board, help with excursion and restaurant reservations, as well as answering a huge range of unique customer queries. So far, she can answer 800 questions in seven languages and 30 different accents across the globe. But she doesn’t stop there. Her artificial intelligence means she is continually expanding her knowledge and offering a more personalised experience for passengers. She can offer instant information about cruise events, entertainment, journey updates or just playing music to get ready to. Virtual Balcony Symphony, Harmony, Spectrum, Anthem, Ovation, Quantum, Navigator, Explorer and Voyager of the Seas Featuring an 80-inch high-definition screen which spans almost floor to ceiling, Royal Caribbean’s Virtual Balconies are a unique and contemporary way to view the world outside without having to book an ocean view or balcony. The staterooms offer a real-time view of the ocean and destinations streamed from either the front or back of the ship, depending on which way your room is facing. There’s even sound added for effect, curtains and a virtual balcony rail to offer a ‘real feel’ to your inside cabin. The whole balcony can be switched off if guests wish, but it adds a great perspective on outside weather and give a new dimension to the cabin. Edge Stateroom with Infinite Balcony Edge-Class ships Offering 27% more space than staterooms on the rest of the fleet, Celebrity Cruises’ innovative Edge Staterooms with Infinite Balcony are one-of-a-kind. The unique factor is the balcony, which has a window operated from a control panel to extend the stateroom and bring the outside in. When the bi-fold doors and window is open, the space is great and really opens up your stateroom within a truly transformational setting. These staterooms are exclusively available on-board Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex, and any future Edge-Class ships. Ultimate Family Suite Symphony of the Seas and Spectrum of the Seas Exactly as described, this suite is the ultimate must for families wanting fun memories! Jam-packed with a huge TV, air-hockey table, LEGO wall, hot tub and even a slide that connects the upper level with the ground it’s the perfect place to hang out and enjoy each other’s company while cruising. There’s only two bedrooms, one for the parents and one for kids which sleeps four. There is also a sofa bed in the living room which sleeps two, so the total number to stay in this suite is up to eight. Ben & Jerrys ‘Sweet’ Freedom-Class ships A stateroom that includes free ice cream sounds like a dream, but it’s a reality on-board Royal Caribbean’s Freedom Class ships (Independence, Liberty and Freedom of the Seas). Stateroom 6305 is Promenade Stateroom with a difference, overlooking the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop with two cows prominently displayed in the window. Aptly named the Ben & Jerry’s ‘Sweet’, the cruise line plays on the unusual view with perks such as daily complimentary ice cream for each guest; access to the Concierge Lounge; and reservations for the ice show. Within the room décor mirror bovine-themes with cow artwork, trinkets, and cow print soft furnishings for a truly unique stateroom to enjoy! Edge Villa Edge-Class ships Designed for the Edge-Class, these suites offer an exciting new category of staterooms for guests to enjoy. The unusual offering is that the Edge Villa is set across two floors, with private plunge pools and floor-to-ceiling windows as well as an expanse of 739 square feet of space! Though Celebrity Cruises aren’t the first cruise line to offer two-storey suites, the Edge Villas are styled to a contemporary level and include exclusive access to The Retreat; their own butler; a premium beverage package; unlimited speciality dining; and high-speed internet access. Sea Terrace Fleetwide Featured on-board brand-new cruise line, Virgin Voyages, all the staterooms are unique and unusual. However, the Sea Terrace stands out with its Roomy Rainshower and hand-woven terrace hammock as well as plenty other quirky features that you wouldn’t usually find in a typical balcony room. The rain showers offer a spa-like wash while the hammocks are hand-woven by artisans from Yellow Leaf – a social enterprise that fosters women’s empowerment and community transformation in rural Thailand. The stateroom features clever lighting with sensors that auto-adjust according to movements and changes between the day and night and there are PIR presence sensors which automatically switch to energy-saving mode when the cabin is empty. Lanai Stateroom Amsterdam, Maasdam, Rotterdam, Veendam and Volendam ships The Lanai stateroom offers a roomy cruise experience on-board selected ships in the Holland America Line fleet. What makes these unique is the sliding door which leads directly into the walk-around Lower Promenade Deck, with instant access to reserved deck chairs to enjoy the stunning views at your leisure. Privacy is not compromised either as the glass for the sliding doors is one-way, so no one can peer into your stateroom when passing by. From virtual balconies to digital assistants, cruising offers a great range of places to stay and relax. If you’re looking for something unusual to book for your next cruise, these 11 staterooms are definitely some of our top picks! Have you stayed in any of these cruise ship cabins? Cruising the Norwegian Fjords

Cruising the Norwegian Fjords

Cruising the Norwegian Fjords View Norwegian Fjords Cruises Few destinations can rival the phenomenal beauty and exhilarating experiences of Norway.  From spectacular waterfalls to magnificent mountains, the stunningly rugged natural scenery is sure to astound anyone who visits. As if the natural landscape isn’t breath-taking enough, the vibrant cities and enchanting villages that make up the ports of Norwegian Fjords Cruises are rich in history, art and culture. If you’re keen to experience the wonders of a cruise to Norway, we have a few handy tips to ensure your time in Europe’s northernmost country is as perfect as possible! Which Cruise Lines offer cruises to Norway? A great cruising experience is made up of two things – a fantastic destination, and an equally fantastic ship. Here are some of the cruise lines with ships offering cruises to Norway. P&O Cruises See Norway with P&O Cruises, where you can chill in oasis spas, enjoy marvellous shows, or enjoy a tipple at an on-board gin distillery. P&O will take your to some of the most popular Fjord destinations including; Olden, where you can see the aqua blue ice of the Jostedal Glacier cascading down the stunning Oldedalen Valley, as you navigate the spindly fjords of Norway! Princess Cruises Experience the magnificence of Norway with all the comforts of modern cruising. Enjoy elegant wine bars, dazzling European-style piazzas, open-air movie nights under the stars, and lively Vegas-style casinos - all designed to elevate your journey through this breathtaking destination. Norwegian Cruise Line For a relaxing visit to Norway, consider a cruise that features amenities like infinity pools and glass-walled saunas for the ultimate in scenic comfort. Many itineraries include breathtaking destinations such as the coastal town of Ålesund, often praised as one of Norway’s most beautiful thanks to its distinctive Art Nouveau architecture. With thoughtfully designed onboard experiences and well-planned routes, these sailings offer an unforgettable way to explore the fjords. Celebrity Cruises Enjoy a Norway cruise with experiences designed for every kind of traveler. Unwind with a refreshing craft beer at a lively social bar, challenge friends to your favorite outdoor games on a real grass lawn, or dance the night away at a fabulous silent disco. You can also take a behind-the-scenes tour of the ship’s galley and kitchens to see where the culinary magic happens. Royal Caribbean If you're after an action-packed cruise to Norway, Royal Caribbean delivers with its Norwegian Fjords itineraries. On board, guests can enjoy thrilling activities like bumper cars, roller skating, skydiving simulators, laser tag, ice skating, and rock climbing. One standout feature is the unique viewing decks - often compared to the London Eye at sea and offering incredible panoramic views of the breathtaking fjords. MSC Cruises Visitors to Norway can enjoy a leisurely stroll beneath a dazzling sky dome on an indoor promenade or sip a delicious drink crafted by a Robot Bartender - all whilst enjoying the comforts of a modern cruise experience with MSC Cruises. Fred Olsen Cruise Lines Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines' smaller vessels are perfectly suited for navigating the narrower fjords of Norway, offering breathtaking views of the rugged landscape from onboard observation areas. Each ship is also equipped with inflatable RIB boats, allowing guests to explore more secluded corners of the Norwegian Fjords up close. Cunard Follow Viking trading routes with Cunard and explore fine art at sea, play a leisurely game of croquet on a ship with classic Art Deco elegance, or stargaze in the only planetarium at sea - all part of the refined experience aboard a Cunard voyage. What is the best time of year for Norwegian Cruises? The peak of the Norwegian Cruise season is between June and August, as this is when the weather is most optimum for hiking and for experiencing the midnight sun in the far north. However, for cruisers desperate to enjoy the spectacle of the world-famous Northern Lights, we advise travelling during arctic winter which takes place from late September to early March. This time of year is also ideal if you’re hoping to experience Norway’s snowier activities like dogsled rides and skiing. What are the top Norwegian Cruise destinations? Every port in Norway offers something unique and interesting. Here are some of the most iconic and unmissable spots: Bergen No Norwegian Cruise would be complete without a trip to beautiful Bergen, the Gateway to the Fjords. Nestled among seven hills, with the spectacular Mount Floyen as its backdrop, this exquisite cocktail of old and new architecture is full of things to see and do. Shop at the traditional Norwegian fish market, where flowers and handicrafts can be found alongside the seafood stalls. Or take a stroll through historic Bryggen, the city’s old wharf. This UNESCO world heritage site contains a museum where you can learn the fascinating details of life in medieval Bergen. Visit the Hanseatic Museum, housed in a 300-year-old cod liver oil warehouse. Or perhaps you’d rather take a trip to the 800-year-old Rosenkrantz tower, one time home of King Eirik Magnusson, or the medieval royal residence of Haakon’s hall. For more recent history, World War buffs shouldn’t skip the Bergenhus fortress. Music lovers, on the other hand, should see the home of Edvard Grieg, Norway’s most iconic pianist and composer. Oslo Whilst not all Cruises to Norway stop in the Capital, it’s worth finding one that does. Oslo is a dream city for art fanatics, housing the Edvard Munch museum (the artist best known for The Scream) as well as the Vigeland and Ekeberparken sculpture parks. Plus, with the amount of incredible street art on display, the whole city is like a giant open-air gallery. The city is also full of amazing museums, including the Nobel Peace centre, the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History, and the Kon-Tiki museum. Ålesund Architecture enthusiasts will love the folklore-inspired Art Nouveau style of this vibrant port. Kayak through the Brosundet canal to view the city’s fantastical buildings. Or learn about their construction at the Art Nouveau centre of architecture. If you want to work up a sweat, you can hike 418 steps to the Mount Aksla viewpoint. Or to gaze over Ålesund’s heavenly landscape in a more relaxed manner you can access the same spot via the Bytoget city train. Other notable spots include the Sunmøre Open Air museum, the exceptional artwork of the KUBE art museum, or Northern Europe’s largest saltwater aquarium- the Atlanterhavsparken. Molde Named the ‘Town of Roses’ in honour of the delightful rose gardens that cover the port, Molde is one of the prettiest and best-smelling places in Norway. Admire 222 mountain peaks from the town’s Varden viewpoint or pay a visit to the fascinating Romsdal folk museum. For those taking Norwegian Cruises in July, you may get to experience Moldejazz- Europe’s second oldest jazz festival. The church above the city is also well worth hiking up to, as it was decorated by Norway’s leading artists. And if that isn’t enough art for you, you can also visit the Møre and Romsdal art centre. Tromsø Tromsø is sure to be a favourite port if you like a drink, with more pubs per capita than anywhere else in Norway! However, it’s not just great for bars. Gaze on the magnificent iceberg shaped Cathedral, learn about arctic expeditions at the Polar Museum, or climb the 12,000 step Sherpa staircase up Mount Storsteinen. Honningsvåg Only 21 miles from Europe’s northernmost point, Honningsvåg is one of the best locations for experiencing either the Northern lights or Midnight Sun, depending on the time of year. That isn’t the only draw of this wonderful town though. It also boasts a fabulous pine forest, and you can sip delicious beverages at the Artico ice bar. Honningsvåg is yet another port that art lovers should not miss, as it is home to the Nordkappmuseet, Once Upon a Dream and West of the Moon art galleries. Flåm The quaint village of Flåm is most well-known for its railway. Trains departing from Flåm offer a glorious ride through the nearby scenery, which includes the breath-taking Kjoffossen waterfall and the Aurlandsdalen (Norway’s Grand Canyon). Near to Flåm is Njardarheimr, a living Viking village where you can learn Norse history from incredible Viking tour guides. Stavanger If you like museums that are on the quirkier side, Stavanger is the port for you. Pay a visit to the Norwegian Canning Museum or the Norwegian Petroleum Museum to learn the history of two of Norway’s biggest industries. Stavanger isn’t only known for its unusual museums though. Another claim to fame is the rainbow-hued houses of the old town. No visit to Stavanger would be complete without a stroll down Øvre Holmegate- the Colour Street. Another key Stavanger location to visit is Pulpit Rock, named one of the nation’s most remarkable sights by Lonely Planet. Olden This charming port is best known for the nearby majestic Birksdal Glacier. However, the Glacier is not the only attraction. Take the Loen sky lift up to Mount Hoven to bask in stunning panoramic views. Or pay a visit to Olden’s quaint wooden church. Åndalsnes The mountaineering capital of Norway is wonderful for hikers young and old. There are a number of excellent trails to follow, from climbing Mount Neskalska to the easier and more child-friendly Litlefjellet hike. One major attraction of Åndalsnes is the awe-inspiring Trollsveggen mountain wall (Troll Wall)- Europe’s tallest vertical rock face. Kristiansand A port packed with activity, Kristiansand has something for everyone. The zoo and theme park are fantastic for families, whilst thrill seekers will love the Aquarama waterpark. If you want to immerse yourself in Norwegian history, you can visit the open-air museum comprised of over thirty historic houses, or instead pay a trip to the Cannon Museum at Møvik fortress. Art lovers can wander around the SKMU art museum. Those looking to relax can take a calming and scenic train ride along the Setesdalsbanen railway line, on a train that is over a century old. And, on a sunny day, you can chill on the white sands of the Bystranda beach. What to pack for a Cruise to Norway? Members should check transfer time to make sure they can enjoy the privilege. MSC Status Match MSC Voyagers Club also offers a status match with the programme, allowing existing and new cruisers to MSC Cruises to enjoy the same incentives they would typically enjoy with their pre-existing memberships with other cruise lines, hotel groups, airlines and tour operators. What is the MSC Status Match programme? Upon joining the Voyager’s Club, cruises can enjoy exclusive benefits and privileges simply by mentioning any existing loyalty benefits. This includes those with the airline, tour operators, hotel groups and even other cruise lines! This allows MSC Cruises to match passenger status from other cruise lines, as well as other hospitality industries for the ultimate holiday benefits.   How does it work? You can sign up for MSC Status Match on the MSC Cruises website here: sign up. Matching is carried out by comparing as reasonably possible the level of benefits guaranteed from the external travel programme benefit card with those offered by the MSC Voyagers Club cards. Anyone over the age of 18 years of age can register, and applicants must allow up to 4-7 business days for their Status Match to complete. The MSC Voyager’s Club allows passengers to receive the same level of benefits from their existing scheme, depending on their tier level – Welcome, Classic, Silver, Gold or Black. Memberships include discounts on cruise fares, as well as on-board privileges and access to a range of sailings with up to 15% additional discount. Giles Hawke, MSC Cruises’ Executive Director for UK and Ireland at the time of the launch, said the line is simply looking for people who are travellers. “It is a way of encouraging those who have not tried MSC Cruises to join while retaining all the perks and privileges they are used to. Say you’re a top member with Hilton. You come to us with proof and we make you a top-tier member with our loyalty scheme despite the fact you’ve never cruise with us before. You book, get the relevant discount and benefits and still remain a top tier Hilton member.” MSC Voyagers Club T&Cs You can find the full terms and conditions for both the MSC Voyagers Club and Status Match Programme below. The Ultimate Guide To CocoCay

The Ultimate Guide To CocoCay

The Ultimate Guide To CocoCay View Royal Caribbean Cruise Deals In our ultimate guide to CocoCay we aim to answer every question about Royal Caribbean’s private island of CocoCay to help you plan your Perfect Day. We’ve gathered all the answers to common, and less common questions about CocoCay, plus have included a few exciting CocoCay secrets. So read on and get ready to enjoy your Perfect Day at CocoCay. Click to jump to a section... Getting to CocoCay Activities Price list Height restrictions Excursions Cabanas Food and drink Weather Safety Accessibility Good to know CocoCay secrets   CocoCay FAQs What is Perfect Day CocoCay? Perfect Day at CocoCay is a private island in the Bahamas which is exclusively for Royal Caribbean guests. Here you can chill out by the beautiful beaches and a huge lagoon pool, or enjoy thrilling activities like water slides or ziplining. Is CocoCay open? Yes! CocoCay is currently open. The island underwent a $200 million overhaul and reopened in May 2019. Since then, it closed for ten days due to Hurricane Dorian, but it is now open for business. What happened during the CocoCay renovation? CocoCay, formerly known as Little Stirrup Cay, underwent a $200 million makeover to add 125 acres of thrill and chill attractions. The project saw the addition of features such as the waterpark, pools, zip line and helium balloon as well as a pier to allow ships to dock without requiring tender boats. The rest of the project will see the addition of Maldives-style overwater cabanas at the South Beach side of the island, which are set to open in December 2019. How big is CocoCay? The island is less than a mile wide from west to east and less than 200 metres from north to south. In terms of walking distance, from the ship to the Arrivals Plaza is a six-minute walk. From here to the waterpark is three minutes and to the Chill Island area is five to ten minutes. Is CocoCay a man-made island? This depends on your definition of man-made. The island has always existed and was discovered along with other islands over 500 years ago. However, as it has been developed, parts of it are man-made including the pier, an artificial reef made of wrecks where the fish like to congregate and of course, things like water slides. How do you pronounce CocoCay? There is some debate over whether CocoCay is pronounced as ‘kay’ or ‘key’. The word ‘Cay’ is actually included in the name of many Caribbean islands, including private islands such as Castaway Cay, Half Moon Cay and Harvest Caye. According to the dictionary, a ‘cay’ is a small, low island, and this word is pronounced as ‘key’. In fact, Bahamian locals often pronounce ‘cay’ as ‘key’. However, more often than not, visitors and cruise line staff pronounce the ‘Cay’ in CocoCay as ‘kay’. So, either way is acceptable.>/p? CocoCay is located in the Bahamas, 65 miles northwest of Nassau. Can you fly to CocoCay? CocoCay does not have an airport, and the only way to access it is onboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. Which cruises go to CocoCay? Most cruises to CocoCay depart from Florida, although it is also possible to depart from other ports including New York, Baltimore, Galveston and New Orleans. Itineraries range in length from 2 nights to 14 nights. You can also visit CocoCay on selected transatlantic sailings. Which ships go to CocoCay? The majority of the ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet will call at CocoCay. You can click here to see sailings.   Is CocoCay a tender port? Not any more. Since the pier was built in May 2019, ships can now dock at CocoCay without the need for tender boats. Can you stay at CocoCay? Currently, CocoCay is only open for day visits. However, there are some cruises with later departures which allow guests to stay on the island until late in the evening. In the future, it may be possible to stay overnight on CocoCay, but currently, it is not. CocoCay activities What is there to do at CocoCay? CocoCay has more activities than it’s possible to do in a day, so it’s definitely worth planning ahead. The activities can be broadly split into ‘thrill’ and ‘chill’. Options to suit most dietary needs are available on CocoCay including vegetarian and gluten free options. For other diets including vegan and kosher, there are no marked options, but salads and french fries are always available. Alternatively, you can have lunch back on the ship.   Is there a kids’ menu on CocoCay? There are no children’s menus, but there are plenty of choices to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Are drinks included at CocoCay? The complimentary drinks available at CocoCay are water, lemonade and flavoured water. You’ll find drinks stations across the island. If you purchase a drinks package for your cruise, you can also use it on CocoCay, entitling you to a huge variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. If you would like a drink in a souvenir cup and you have a drinks package, you’ll only be charged for the cup. Is CocoCay all-inclusive? Yes. If you purchase an all-inclusive drinks package to use on your cruise ship then it also works on CocoCay. This means that all your island trip is all-inclusive as food is included too as well as drinks. Drinks are also available to purchase individually at the bars. CocoCay Weather Bad weather is rare in CocoCay. If it is too windy, certain attractions like the tallest waterslides, the zipline and the helium balloon ride may close. If this happens, guests will receive refunds. CocoCay temperature Like the rest of the Bahamas, CocoCay experiences warm weather all year round. The temperature is highest in the summer months between June and September when it reaches up to 32 °C. In the winter the daytime temperature averages 21°C. CocoCay water temperature The sea is always a pleasant temperature for swimming on CocoCay, averaging 28°C in the summer and 22°C in the winter, making it a similar temperature to the air. Watersports, snorkelling and swimming in the sea or the pools can be enjoyed all year round. CocoCay rain Rain rarely spoils anyone’s fun at CocoCay. In the winter it hardly rains at all. Although the rainfall is heavier in the summer months, showers tend to be short-lived and offer a welcome break from the summer heat. Is CocoCay safe? CocoCay is a very safe place to visit. As the only people on the island are cruise ship passengers and staff, crime is virtually non-existent. Lockers are provided for you to store any valuables. Lifeguards There are lifeguards at every pool, on every slide and on the beach. However, parents should still keep a watchful eye on their children near the water. Sharks Snorkellers may see the occasional shark at CocoCay as there are many sharks in the Bahamas. However, there has never been a shark attack here. The water is very clear and the sharks have good eyesight so can see that humans are not food. This is very different to places like California where the water is murky and people are dressed in wetsuits and flippers so they may be mistaken for seals. Jellyfish There may be some jellyfish in the waters around CocoCay, depending on the weather. These aren’t dangerous but could give a painful sting. If you are stung, head to the first aid station or the dive shack and they will give you some alcohol to spray on it which will stop the sting. Stingrays If you take an excursion from CocoCay to Stingray City you will undoubtedly see lots of friendly stingrays. It may also be possible to spot some in the sea off the beach at CocoCay. These creatures are harmless, but if you step on one it will whip up its stinging tail. You can avoid this by shuffling your feet through the sand as you walk so that they know to move out of your way. Accessibility The improvements to CocoCay during the refurbishment have made the resort much more accessible for those with limited mobility. If you’re considering visiting CocoCay with a wheelchair, you’ll find that most of the paths are paved. However, you may then need to transfer across sand to get to certain shaded areas or to the water. CocoCay has sand wheelchairs which are available to assist with this. Oasis Lagoon, the wave pool in the Thrill Waterpark and the infinity pool at Coco Beach Club all have chair lifts. CocoCay trams There are three accessible trams which run all day  to take guests to where they need to go on the island. Although most passengers will walk, the trams offer a great option for those who can’t walk 10-15 minutes from the ship to the furthest part of the island, or who prefer not to. Island tram - Every 15 minutes this tram circles the island, calling at the Arrivals Plaza, the Up, Up & Away Balloon, Oasis Lagoon and Chill Island. From 31st January 2020, the tram will also stop at South Beach and the Coco Beach Club. Pier Tram - This runs a continuous service between the ship and the Arrivals Plaza. Coco Beach Tram - A tram dedicated to guests of Coco Beach Club will also run every 10 minutes between the ship and Coco Beach Club.   CocoCay for toddlers CocoCay is a great destination for toddlers. Parents are welcome to bring pushchairs to the island. Baby changing is available and there is plenty of shade with free beach umbrellas. Toddlers will love Splashaway Bay and Captain Jill's Galleon. Oasis Lagoon has gradual entry points just like a beach. Swimming nappies are allowed in all pools as well as on all beaches and in the sea. Toddlers are permitted to ride the Up, Up & Away Balloon when accompanied by adults and there is no charge for children under four for this experience. Good to know Here are the answers to some more commonly asked questions about CocoCay… Towels Complimentary towels are available onboard your ship and it’s recommended to bring these to the island with you and then return them to the ship. There are also two towel exchange stations on the island where you can swap your towels for fresh ones as needed. Guests who have rented cabanas will have towels at the cabana and they can leave them there on departure. Lockers Lockers are available throughout the island. You can access them using your SeaPass. Sun loungers and umbrellas Sun loungers and umbrellas are available free of charge across the island. Even on busy days there is no shortage of places to sit in the sun or in the shade. Life jackets On CocoCay, life jackets or swim vests are required for guests under a certain height when using certain slides or pools. These are available free of charge Floating beach mats Floating mats are available to hire for around $13, or come included in the cost of certain cabanas or day beds. Alternatively, you can bring your own inflatable lilo. Drinking age Guests must be 21 years old or older to drink alcohol on CocoCay. Smoking Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is only permitted in designated smoking areas on CocoCay. Wildlife Wild animals to spot on CocoCay include iguanas, small lizards, seagulls and chickens as well as marine life like turtles, barracuda, sting rays, sharks and fish. Drones Guests are not allowed to use aerial drones on CocoCay or on any of Royal Caribbean’s cruise ships. You can take a drone on the ship to use ashore outside of the main port areas, but it must be stored in your stateroom at all times. Shopping On CocoCay you’ll find a Straw Market which is a traditional Bahamian market selling straw crafts, souvenirs and gifts. The market is run by locals so your cruise card won’t be accepted here. You’ll need to bring cash in the form of US dollars or Bahamian dollars if you want to purchase anything from the Straw Market. What currency is used at CocoCay? You can use your cruise card to pay for everything on the island, with the exception of souvenirs from the Straw Market. As the market is run by locals you can only pay for items in cash. US dollars and Bahamian dollars are both accepted and have the same value ($1USD = B$1) Weddings It’s possible to get married on CocoCay whilst your cruise is docked at the island. Contact us if you'd like any more information. CocoCay Map You can download a pdf map of CocoCay here. You'll also find a paper version of the map in your stateroom the night before you arrive at CocoCay. The Royal Caribbean App is also very useful to help you find your way around the island. What can you no longer do on CocoCay? Since CocoCay was revamped in 2019, there’s so much more to do on the island. However, there are some things which are no longer available. These include: Massage – Spa services are no longer available on the island Hair braiding – It’s no longer possible to get your hair braided on CocoCay. You probably won’t have time anyway. Better to get it done somewhere like Nassau Nature trail – Before the development of Cococay, this was a popular activity, but it has been discontinued Fishing – There are no opportunities for fishing trips from CocoCay and bringing your own fishing gear is discouraged. There are better ports of call for fishing in the Bahamas Private area for suite guests – Before the development of CocoCay, guests staying in suites on the ship had their own area. Now, no enjoy a VIP experience, you can book into the Coco Beach club, regardless of your stateroom type. Lazy river – CocoCay has a water park but has never had a lazy river How long does a Perfect Day on CocoCay last? The exact timings of arrival and departure from CocoCay vary depending on the itinerary. Guests usually disembark the ship after breakfast and return in the late afternoon. Late night stays at CocoCay Royal Caribbean are offering very limited number of sailings with late night stays on CocoCay on board Navigator of the Seas. Guests can stay on the island until 10 pm and enjoy a party night with a barbecue, fireworks and lasers. Two visits to CocoCay Royal Caribbean offers a wide selection of 4-night cruises which have two stops at CocoCay. Sailing on board Navigator of the Seas from Miami or Mariner of the Seas from Orlando, these cruises have two days at CocoCay and a sea day. Enjoy twice the thrills, double chills or a day of each. Whatever you choose, you probably still won’t quite find time to do all that there is to offer! CocoCay secrets Psst! Here are a few secrets to make your time on CocoCay even more enjoyable. Don't tell anyone. Secret chicken sandwich – You won't find this item on any menu but cruisers are raving about it! Head to the Snack Shack and ask for parmesan chicken on a bun. Then, add a side of mozzarella cheese sticks and marinara sauce on top, along with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and mayo from the salad bar. Secret ice cream sandwich – Grab two chocolate chip cookies and head to the self-serve ice-cream machine to create your own ice-cream sandwich. Avoid the queues – The best times to visit the waterpark for the shortest queue times are before 11am and after 3pm. Head to Daredevil’s Peak first, then ride it again right before you head back to the ship. Save on activities – It's advisable to pre-book all your CocoCay activities before your cruise. The prices can go up and down, but it's always cheaper to book online via Royal Caribbean's Cruise Planner rather than on-board the ship. Save your energy – Keep an eye out for the complimentary solar-powered trams to save your steps. Don't miss the underwater music – Float on your back with your ears underwater in the Oasis Lagoon to listen to the underwater music [/vc_column_text][vc_btn title="Browse cruises to CocoCay" color="success" align="center" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cruise118.com%2Fcruise-ports%2Fcococay%2F|||"][vc_column_text]   Book your cruise to CocoCay Would you like to cruise to CocoCay? Your Guide to Private Islands in the Caribbean

Your Guide to Private Islands in the Caribbean

Your Guide to Private Islands in the Caribbean View Caribbean Cruise Deals Caribbean cruises are already considered the peak of luxury by many, but some cruise lines have amped up the wow factor with incredible private islands. These stunning islands in the sun are packed with amazing activities, gorgeous scenery and fantastic food. But best of all, access to them is exclusive to passengers of the cruise line that owns them. How many Private Islands does the Caribbean have? The 1.06 million square miles that make up the Caribbean contains over seven thousand islands. With only about a hundred of these islands being inhabited, that leaves plenty to be bought and privately owned- which is likely why the Caribbean makes up 40% of the global private island market. But which Caribbean islands have cruises?   Does Royal Caribbean have their own Private Island? Royal Caribbean is the cruise line most synonymous with Caribbean Cruises and boasts not one but two private islands in the Caribbean with each one having its own special appeal. Perfect Day at CocoCay Probably the most famous of the Cruise Line Private Islands, Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay in the Bahamas is a dream holiday destination. Adrenaline junkies will adore the Thrill Waterpark, which boasts the 135 foot tall Devil’s Peak, North America’s tallest waterslide. Those wanting to reach new heights in a more relaxed manner can take in magnificent views of the island from the Up, Up & Away helium balloon. And for complete serenity, pay a visit to Chill Island and book one of CocoCay’s floating beach Cabanas. Hunger is never an issue on CocoCay, with a beach barbeque, three snack shacks, and the delicious offerings of Captain Jack’s Bar. As if all that wasn’t enough, CocoCay also offers the largest freshwater pool in the Bahamas and the largest wave pool in the Caribbean. If a private island isn’t quite exclusive enough for you, you can also book into the ultra-exclusive Coco Beach Club.   Labadee Located on the North Coast of Haiti, Labadee is a capable rival to its Bahamas based brother. Soar over the island on the 2, 600 foot Dragon’s Breath zipline or scream with terror on the Dragon’s Tail coaster. Make sure to pay a visit to the Arawak Aqua Park, shop at the island’s own Haitian flea market, and take advantage of the amazing water-sports opportunities on the island. If you’ve ever wanted to try parasailing, now is the time! And no day at Labadee would be complete without sipping their signature beverage –  the Labadoozie. Do MSC cruises have their own private island? As of 2019, MSC cruises have been the proud owners of one of the Caribbean’s newest private islands. Ocean Cay Despite being a newcomer in the world of Cruise Line islands, Ocean Cay already offers a range of fabulous activities and attractions. Enjoy their luxurious spa with yoga and fitness classes, indulge in a wonderful frozen treat at their ice cream parlour (make sure to order your dessert in a fish-shaped cone), or swim in their saltwater lagoon. If you like to stay active abroad, you’ll love their sports zone and activities like paddle boarding, kayaking and snorkelling. Do Princess Cruises have their own private island? Whilst not technically a full island, Princess Cruises lays claim to 40 beautiful acres on the southern tip of Eleuthera. Princess Cays Princess Cays offers something for everyone, whether you want to zoom over the waves in a banana boat or peruse a quaint craft market. There are water-sports for athletic types and a beach barbeque for foodies. And you can overlook the spectacular scenery of the island from Princess Cays’ very own observation tower. However, the crowning glory of Princess Cays is the exclusive beach parties. A day at Ocean Cay is always topped off with a sensational light show from the island’s very own lighthouse. Does Norwegian Cruise Line have their own private island? Like Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line has two private Caribbean islands for their passengers to enjoy. Great Stirrup Cay One of the Bahamas oldest private islands, Great Stirrup Cay is rich with amazing things to see and do. Take an eco-boat tour around the island, relax in their spa, seek thrills at their water park, or dine at their multiple restaurants. One of the starring attractions of Great Stirrup Cay is snorkelling in their impressive underwater sculpture garden. Visitors also love Great Stirrup Cay’s straw market and the yummy fare of the complimentary Abaco Taco taco bar. Harvest Caye This glorious Southern Belize island is ideal for lovers of natural beauty. Swim in the world’s second largest barrier reef and get close to incredible wildlife in their nature centre. The island also possesses a 15,000 square foot pool with a swim up bar, a saltwater lagoon and a shopping village. For a thrilling way to bask in this island’s brilliant views, take on Harvest Caye’s 3,000 foot zipline ‘The Flighthouse’. Tips for enjoying Cruise Line Private Islands You’ll undoubtedly want to make the most of your time on one of these island paradises, so we have a few tips to help you do just that. Know what’s included and what’s extra Not all of the delights of private islands are included in the cost of your cruise. Umbrellas for shade, certain eateries and water-sports can all cost extra, so make sure you know which amenities charge an additional fee before you go.  If you want to avoid paying any extra fees, consider bringing your own equipment like snorkels, beach toys and means of shade. Book in advance If you dream of relaxing in a private cabana or beach villa, you’ll need to reserve one ASAP, either whilst on-board the ship or before you even embark on your cruise. Beach umbrellas and water-sports equipment should be reserved as early as possible too. Lotion up Don’t let the excitement of a private island distract you from the cardinal rule of any holiday in the sun. Apply sun cream as often as possible to prevent your amazing day being marred by sunburn or sunstroke. Choose your spot carefully Picking a spot on the beach to set up camp requires a lot of consideration. Areas of beach nearest to where the ship docks will become chaotic and busy in moments- so catch an open air tram to a more suitable location. You should also think about how shaded you want your spot to be, and what island amenities you’d like to be nearest to. Bring insect repellent Bug bites might be the only negative of Caribbean Cruises- avoid them by regularly spraying your ankles with insect repellent. Wear Cotton One of the biggest appeals of Caribbean cruises is the glorious heat- but that heat can become stifling if you aren’t wearing a breathable material like cotton. If you’re itching to experience the wonders of one of these exquisite islands, our expert cruise concierge service has a number of Caribbean Cruise deals to make all your dreams come true!View Caribbean Cruise Deals
